Stocks open positive first day of FY25

Stocks opened positive on Tuesday, the first trading day of FY25, as investors put fresh bets on selective shares.

The finance bill passed on Saturday at the parliament imposing capital gain tax on individual investors for the first time, applicable when profits exceed Tk 5 million.  

The key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by more than 8 points or 0.15 per cent to 5336, after one and a half hour of trading at 11:30 am, when the report was filed.

The blue-chip DS30 index, a group of 30 prominent companies, however, lost nearly 3 points to 1,906 while the DSES index, which represents Shariah-based companies, shed 2 points to 1178.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 1.66 billion till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 217 advanced, 109 declined, and 54 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor till then.

Beach Hatchery was the most traded stock till then with shares worth Tk 152 million changing hands.
