Stocks witness mostly lower in early trading

The prices of most of the shares on both bourses witnessed downward trend in early hour of trading Tuesday as investors are on selling mood.

Brokers said investors’ confidence dented as the securities regulator Monday sought a fresh proposal from the Chinese consortium addressing all of regulator’s concerns.

Following the previous day’s 58 points fall, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) started the day on downward trend amid low trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell more than 31 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CAPSI) of port city’s bourse slumped 28 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX fell more than 27 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse lost 44 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

However, the market started to recover the initial losses as the session progressed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 27 points or 0.48 per cent to reach at 5,636 points at 11:00am.

The two other indices also saw negative trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 10 points or 0.48 per cent to reach at 2,095 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also lost 4.94 points or 0.36 per cent to reach at 1,332 points till then.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 305 million when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 38 advanced, 169 declined and 41 remained unchanged.

The newly listed Queen South Textile was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 23 million changing hands, closely followed by Monno Ceramic Tk 22.86 million, Wata Chemicals Tk 16 million, CAMP IBBL Islamic Mutual Fund Tk 12 million and Nahee Aluminum Tk 8.0 million.

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw downward trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI-losing 44 points to stand at 17,428, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Category Index – CSCX –also lost 27 points to stand at 10,523 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 11 gained, 56 declined and 8 issues remained unchanged with Tk 13 million in turnover.
