Ten cos grab 25pc of weekly turnover

Fortune Shoes dominates DSE transaction chart

Ten most traded companies accounted for over 25 per cent transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the outgoing week, with Fortune Shoes coming out on top of the turnover chart.

Thursday was the last trading session of the week.

Market analysts said the shoe company dominated the weekly turnover chart as investors showed their appetite for its shares after the company's quarterly earnings were published last week.

As per unaudited financial reports, the company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.54 for January-March 2019 as against Tk 0.40 for the same period in 2018.

The company's EPS for the nine-month period from July 2018 to March 2019 was Tk 1.67 as against Tk 1.19 for the same period from July 2017 to March 2018.

According to statistics available with the DSE, 15.73 million shares of Fortune Shoes were traded last week, generating a turnover of Tk 588 million or 3.83 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover of DSE stood at Tk 15.13 billion last week, up from Tk 13.66 billion in the previous week.

The company's share closed at Tk 37 on Thursday, the last trading session of the week, a 3.90 per cent decline over the previous week.

Its share traded between Tk 27.70 and Tk 40.40 in the last one year.

The Fortune Shoes, listed on the DSE in 2016, disbursed 15 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.24 billion, authorised capital is Tk 1.50 billion and the total number of securities is 124.93 million.

The sponsor-directors own 30.93 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 10.34 per cent, and the general public 58.73 per cent as of March 31, 2019, the DSE data show.

The National Polymer came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 488 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 105.80 on Thursday, soaring 13.16 per cent over the previous week.

Monno Ceramic clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 473 million changing hands. The company's share price closed 7.26 per cent lower at Tk 227.40.

The United Power emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 460 million changing hands. The power generation company's share closed at Tk 307.70, advancing 9.46 per cent.

The Genex Infosys notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 380 million changing hands. The company's share price jumped 22.76 per cent to close at Tk 48 on Thursday. It was also the week's top gainer.

The turnover of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company was Tk 365 million. The state-run company's share price shed 2.47 per cent to close at Tk 154.20 each.

The National Tubes featured a turnover of Tk 320 million. The company's share ended at Tk 121.90 each, losing 2.32 per cent over the previous week.

The Esquire Knit Composite featured a turnover of Tk 299 million. The recently listed company's share closed at Tk 45.80 each, gaining 10.36 per cent.

The turnover of Brac Bank was Tk 271 million. The bank's share closed 1.10 per cent lower at Tk 63.20.

Indo-Bangla Pharmaceuticals also found a spot on the top 10 turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 236 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 13.04 per cent to close at Tk 26 each on Thursday.
