United Power tops turnover chart

Ten cos grab one-fourth of transactions on DSE

The ten most traded companies captured more than 24 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday, with the United Power leading the turnover chart.

The investors showed their appetite for the shares of the United Power after the company published its quarterly financial reports on Thursday.

The consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 5.19 for January-March 2019, which was Tk 2.40 (separate) for January-March 2018.

The consolidated EPS was Tk 12.88 for the period of July 2018-March 2019 as against Tk 7.01 (Separate) for July 2017-March 2018 period.

Following the news, the power generation company's share price rose 4.30 per cent to close at Tk 307.70 on Thursday.

According to statistics available with the DSE, a total of 889,915 shares of the United Power were traded on Thursday, generating a turnover of nearly Tk 273 million, making up 5.74 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 4.75 billion on the day, up from Tk 4.15 billion in the previous session.

The company's share traded between Tk 198.10 and Tk 422.50 in the last one year.

The United Power, listed on the DSE in 2015, disbursed 90 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 4.79 billion, authorised capital is Tk 8.0 billion and the total number of securities is 479.08 million.

The sponsor-directors own 90 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 6.56 per cent, foreign investors 0.06 per cent and the general public 3.38 per cent as of March 31, 2019.

Fortune Shoes came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 188 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 37, shedding 0.80 per cent over the previous day.

Monno Ceramic clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 116 million changing hands. The company's share price soared 8.75 per cent to close at Tk 227.40.

Grameenphone emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 94 million changing hands. The largest market cap company's share closed at Tk 358.20, losing 0.14 per cent.

National Polymer notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 91 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 2.62 per cent to close at Tk 105.80 each.

The turnover of Active Fine Chemicals was Tk 89 million. The bank's share price advanced 6.27 per cent to close at Tk 28.80 each.

Genex Infosys featured a turnover of Tk 77 million. The company's share closed at Tk 48 each, soaring 9.84 per cent over the previous day.

BDCOM Online featured a turnover of Tk 74 million. The company's share closed at Tk 30.80 each, soaring 10 per cent.

The turnover of Esquire Knit Composite was Tk 71 million. The recently listed company's share closed at Tk 45.80, gaining 6.02 per cent.

The National Tubes also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 70 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 0.83 per cent to close at Tk 121.90 each.
