United Power lights up weekly turnover chart

Ten cos account for 29pc transactions on DSE

Ten most traded companies accounted for 29 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the outgoing week, with the United Power Generation & Distribution Company bagging the top spot of the weekly turnover chart.

Market analysts attributed the high demand for the United Power shares to its healthy dividend announced recently.

The power generation company has recommended 130 per cent cash and 10 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2019. The record date is September 8.

The United Power and its major shareholder United Mymensingh Power recently executed an agreement with an international private equity group for an investment of Tk 8.5 billion (approximately US$100 million), which also encouraged investors, said a leading broker.

According to DSE data, about 4.08 million shares of United Power were traded during the week, generating a turnover of Tk 1.63 billion, which was 7.05 per cent of the week's total turnover of Tk 23.03 billion.

The company's share closed at Tk 410.08 each on Thursday, the last trading session of the week, gaining 3.97 per cent over the previous week.

Khulna Power came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 811 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.17 per cent to close at Tk 58.30 each on Thursday.

JMI Syringes & Medical Devices clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 705 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 495.70, losing 2.77 over the previous week.

Orion Infusions emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 697 million changing hands. The company's share soared 17.94 per cent to close at Tk 71 each on Thursday.

Fortune Shoes notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 587 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 41.40 each, advancing 2.73 per cent.

The turnover of Monno Ceramic was Tk 585 million. The company's share price advanced 1.60 per cent to close at Tk 215.70 each.

Bangladesh Shipping Corporation featured a turnover of Tk 488 million. The state-owned company's share closed at Tk 55.40 each, losing 4.81 per cent over the previous week.

The turnover of Beacon Pharmaceuticals was Tk 448 million. The company's share price rose 4.68 per cent to close at Tk 24.60 each.

Silco Pharma featured a turnover of Tk 418 million. The company's share closed at Tk 31.20, soaring 9.47 per cent over the week before.

Coppertech Industries also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 404 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 2.81 per cent to close at Tk 38 each on Thursday.
