DSE, CSE end in red amid investor caution

Stocks closed lower on Wednesday as investors remained active on both sides of the trading fence, with selling pressure dominating a particular large-cap.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), declined by 13.91 points to settle at 5,112.51.

The blue-chip index, DS30, comprising 30 leading companies, dropped by 0.67 points to 1,896.30, while the DSES Index, representing Shariah-compliant companies, fell by 7.95 points to 1,137.52 at the close.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Tk 3.14 billion, down 4.30 per cent from the previous trading day.

The majority of stocks saw price declines, with 124 advancing, 206 declining, and 65 remaining unchanged out of the 395 issues traded on the DSE trading floor.

Khan Brothers PP Woven Bag Industries was the most-traded stock, with shares worth Tk 121.72 million changing hands, followed by ADN Telecom, BRAC Bank, Orion Infusion, and Midland Bank.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed lower, with its All Share Price Index (CASPI) dropping 43.3 points to settle at 14,332 and the Selective Categories Index (CSCX) decreasing by 29.1 points to 8,720.7.

The port city bourse traded 1.71 million shares and mutual fund units, with a turnover of Tk 40.19 million.
