DSE, CSE fall amid low trading volume

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed Wednesday’s trading session on a downward trajectory, reversing the day’s initial upward momentum.

DSEX (the broad index) fell by 5.77 points, settling at 5,185 points compared to the previous session's 5,190.77 points. The Shariah-based DSES index declined by 0.54 points to 1,158.35 points, while the DS30 blue-chip index dropped by 1.74 points, ending at 1,921.00 points, according to a UNB report.

Trading volume and value also saw a decline. A total of 127.3 million shares and units were traded through 1,10,925 transactions, compared to 171.4 million shares in the previous session. The value of traded shares and bonds stood at Tk 3.07 billion, down from Tk 4.27 billion in the prior session.

Out of the 396 companies that traded on the DSE, 118 advanced, 214 declined, and 64 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed with a downward trend. The All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell by 22.57 points to settle at 14,480.3 points.

On the CSE, 183 companies participated in trading. Among them, 79 recorded price gains, 77 saw declines, and 27 remained unchanged.

A total of 1.35 million shares and units were traded through 1,394 transactions, with a total trading value of Tk 41.1 million, down from Tk 67.3 million in the previous session.
