DSE opens higher, CSE down at opening

The Dhaka Stock (DSE) opened higher while the port city’s bourse saw a downward trend in earning trading on Thursday as investors were active on both sides of the trading floor.

Following the previous three days’ downturn, the key index of the prime bourse went up by 11 points to 6,382 after the first hour of trading at 11:00 am, when the report was filed.

Market experts said stocks surged driven by increased buying activity across the trading floor, followed by heightened optimism among investors.

The DSES index, which represents Shariah-based companies, gained 3 points to 1,393 and the DS30 Index, which consists of blue-chip companies, rose 4 points to 2,176.

Turnover also stood at Tk 2.52 billion after the first hour of trading as the bargain hunters were confident enough to put fresh funds on good stocks.

Of the issues traded till then, 200 advanced, 98 declined and 64 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Low-cap stocks dominated the turnover chart with Best Holdings becoming the most-traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 360 million changing, followed by Sikder Insurance, Khulna Power, Central Pharma and Aftab Automobile.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), however, opened lower with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – losing 26 points to 18,371 at 11:00 am.
