DSEX crosses 6,000-mark at opening

Stocks opened sharply higher on Tuesday, after a single-day break, with the key index of the major bourse crossing the 6,000-mark again amid buying spree.

Within the first 30 minutes of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 35.38 points or 0.59 per cent to reach 6,026, when the report was filed at 10:30 am.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also advanced 6.86 points to reach 2,212 and the Shariah Index (DSES) rose 4.25 points to stand 1,290 points till then.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 2.52 billion within the first 30 minutes of trading at 10:30 am.

Market operators said lower returns from the money market, easing virus worries coupled with positive expectations from the upcoming budget, boosted the investors’ confidence in the market.

Of the issues traded till then, 186 advanced, 82 declined and 58 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor till then.

NRB Commercial Bank was the most traded stock till then with shares worth Tk 254 million changing hands, closely followed by BD Finance, AB Bank, BBS Cables, and LankaBangla Finance.

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also opened higher with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI-gaining 100 points to stand at 17,459, also at 10:30 am.

Of the issues traded till then 68 advanced, 37 declined and 15 remained unchanged with Tk54 million in turnover.
