Eastern Ins tops DSE turnover, gainers' charts

Ten most traded cos account for 22pc transaction

Ten most traded companies accounted for more than 22 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Tuesday, with the Eastern Insurance making it to the top of the turnover chart.

Four insurers also featured on the top ten turnover chart. The companies are Eastern Insurance Company, Global Insurance, Eastland Insurance and National Life Insurance.

Market analysts said most of the insurance companies have become lucrative as their prices fell during the recent market slump.

The Eastern Insurance also dominated the gainers' chart for the two consecutive sessions, soaring 9.82 per cent to close at Tk 54.80 each on Tuesday. Its share also rose 9.91 per cent on Monday.

According to the DSE data, about 3.37 million shares of Eastern Insurance were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 183 million, which was 3.46 per cent of the prime bourse's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 5.28 billion on Tuesday, down from Tk 5.35 billion in the previous session.

The company's share traded between Tk 24.40 and Tk 61.60 in the last one year.

Eastern Insurance, listed on the DSE in 1994, recommended 20 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2018.

In 2017, the company also disbursed 20 per cent cash dividend.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 431.10 million, authorised capital is Tk 1.0 billion and the total number of securities is 43.11 million.

The sponsor-directors hold 50.90 per cent stake in the company, while institutions own 21.92 per cent, and the general public 27.18 per cent as of May 31, 2019, the DSE data show.

Nurani Dyeing came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 144 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 16.90 each, soaring 9.74 per cent over the previous day.

JMI Syringes clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 143 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 1.07 per cent to close at Tk 453.10 each.

Dragon Sweater emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 115 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 20.90 each, gaining 1.45 per cent.

Global Insurance notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 100 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.93 per cent to close at Tk 31.80 each.

The turnover of New Line Clothings was Tk 97 million. The company's share closed at Tk 25.20 each, remaining unchanged over the previous day.

SK Trims Industries featured a turnover of Tk 96 million. The company's share price shed 0.78 per cent to close at Tk 50.70 each.

The turnover of Eastland Insurance was Tk 94 million. The company's share closed at Tk 27.10, advancing 0.74 per cent.

National Life Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 89 million. The life insurer's share price advanced 0.51 per cent to close at Tk 234.80 each.

Pacific Denims also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 86 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 4.84 per cent to close at Tk 17.30 each.
