The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) has been buoyed by a third straight day of gains for both its benchmark index and market capitalisation.

On Wednesday, the bourse's main index, DSEX, grew by 12 points compared with the previous day, closing at 5,238 points.

The market turnover reached Tk 4.77 billion after transactions steadily increased throughout the day.

Shares from sectors such as textiles, insurance, engineering, and banking, which had shown strong growth in previous days, displayed mixed trends during midday trading, leading to a slight decrease in turnover compared to the previous day.

Nevertheless, the market index continued its upward trend for the third straight day, according to a bdnews24.com report.

Mutual funds, which saw marked price increases, helped maintain the positive momentum in the index despite selling pressure on other stocks. Companies from the SME sector also saw their prices grow.

From the morning until around 11:30 am, the index steadily rose, with the majority of companies seeing an increase in share prices. After 11:30 am, the index saw a significant surge, adding 39 points to reach 5,265 points.

However, when share prices in three key sectors adjusted, the index underwent a slight correction, ultimately closing with an increase of 12 points at 5,238 points.

Over the past three days, the DSEX has gained 53 points, while market capitalisation has grown by Tk 49.7 billion. As turnover continues to improve, investor sentiment is becoming increasingly optimistic about the market’s future.

Of the 394 companies trading shares, 139 experienced price increases, 206 saw declines, and 49 remained unchanged.

In terms of turnover, the banking sector led the market with the highest trading volume, totalling Tk 550 million, followed by pharmaceuticals and chemicals, which contributed Tk 528.9 million.

By the end of the day, the top gainer based on closing prices was ICB AMCL Sonali Bank First Mutual Fund.

Other notable gainers included First Janata Bank Mutual Fund, ICB AMCL CMSF Golden Jubilee Mutual Fund, EBL NRB Mutual Fund, and LR Global Bangladesh Mutual Fund One.

In contrast, the top losers were Emerald Oil, Jutspinners, HR Textile, Padma Oil, and Deshbandhu Polymer.
