Meghna Group celebrates launching eight new units in MEZ, MIEZ

Meghna Group of Industries (MGI) on Saturday celebrated inauguration of eight new industries of Meghna Economic Zone (MEZ) and Meghna Industrial Economic Zone (MIEZ) at Meghnaghat of Sonargaon in Narayanganj, according to a statement. 

MEZ received the first licence from Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) as a private economic zone and inaugurated five new industrial units in the zone namely Meghna Pulp and Paper Mills Ltd, Meghna Edible Oils Refinery Ltd, MPP Power Plant Ltd, Sonargaon Flour and Dal Mills Ltd, and Tasnim Chemical Complex Unit-2 Ltd.

The group also opened three new factories at the MIEZ. These are Meghna Beverage Ltd, Unique Cement Fiber Industries Ltd and Sonargaon Steel Fabricate Ltd.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith was present in the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest while Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Railways Minister Md. Mazibul Hoque and FBCCI President Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) were present as special guests.

Shamim Osman MP, Liyakat Hossain Khoka MP, Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Coordinator, SDG and Paban Chowdhury, Executive Chairman, BEZA were present as guests of honour. Industrialists, high officials, dignitaries and, executives and employees of Meghna Group were also present in the event, presided over by MGI Chairman and Managing Director Mostafa Kamal.

In his address of welcome, the group chairman said that the group has so far invested Tk 3,000 crore in the eight new industries in the two economic zones and created employment opportunities for 5,000 people. He also informed that 10 more industrial plants are being established and once these all industries go into operation, total 12,000 to 15,000 people will be employed.

He also mentioned that the group would establish three more economic zones and transform Bangladesh to an industrially developed country within next few years provided supports by the government and BEZA.
