Portfolio investment drops in FY18

Portfolio investment, generally known as foreign investment in the capital market, dropped by 20 per cent in the past fiscal year (FY18) over the previous year.

Central bank statistics showed that net amount of portfolio investment reached $365 million in FY18 which was $457 million in FY17.

Portfolio investments can span a wide range of asset classes such as stocks, government bonds, corporate bonds, treasury bills, mutual funds etc.

In Bangladesh, portfolio investment mostly concentrated on stocks of the listed companies and through secondary trading.
