Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-- on Monday plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 30.67 points or 0.49 per cent to 6,257.14. Two other indices also ended lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 13.99 points to finish at 2,124.62 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 6.15 points to close at 1,357.95.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Tk 4.14 billion which was Tk 4.2 billion in the previous session of the week.
Out of 390 issues traded, 148 declined, 19 advanced and 223 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
FUWANGFOOD topped the turnover chart, followed by Sonali Paper, GEMINISEA, LHBL and Squar Pharma.
CENTRALPHL was the day's top gainer, posting 2.65 per cent gain while KBPPWBIL was the worst loser, losing 8.78 per cent.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI - losing 65.45 points to settle at 18,503.35 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX - shedding 39.45 points to close at 11,061.13.
Of the issues traded, 79 declined, 18 advanced and 54 issues remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.
The port city's bourse traded 2.17 million shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value worth about Tk 123 million.
