Stock merkets rise amid BSEC silver jubilee celebration

The prices of most of the stocks on bourses witnessed upward trend in early hour of trading on Wednesday investors are showing buying spree on sector specific stocks.

Following the previous day’s flat movement, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened higher amid rising trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 22 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse rose 43 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX advanced more than 21 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse gained 37 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) organise a weeklong event to celebrate its silver jubilee started from today.

Due to the BSEC’s silver jubilee inaugural programme, the management of both bourses extended trading hours by 30 minutes only for today (Wednesday).

The trading started at 10:30am as usual and will be continued till 3:00pm instead of 2.30pm today.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 21.16 points or 0.38 per cent to reach at 5,565 points at 11:00am.

Two other indices also saw positive trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced3.90 points to reach at 1,942 points and the DSE Shariah Index rose 5.02 points to stand at 1,276 points at 11:00am.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 1.21 billion on DSE when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Khulna Power was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 223 million changing hands, closely followed by Active Fine Chemicals Tk 204 million, National Life Insurance Tk 99 million, BBS Cables Tk 78 million and Nahee Aluminum Tk 55 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 153 advanced, 55 declined and 50 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

The port city’s bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) saw positive trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI-advancing 37 points to stand at 17,132, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Category Index – CSCX –also gained 23 points to stand at 10,384 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 39 gained, 11 declined and 12 issues remained unchanged with Tk 60 million in turnover.
