Stocks end lower as investors maintain sell dominance

Stocks ended lower on Tuesday as cautious investors maintained their sell dominance amid the prevailing volatility.

The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) decreased by 60.14 points to settle at 5,715.36.

The blue-chip index DS30, a group of 30 prominent companies, saw a 27.87-point decrease to 2093.27, while the DSES Index, which represents Shariah-based companies, saw a 16.46-point decrease to 1,229.70 till the end.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Tk 5.19 billion, down 35.75 per cent from the previous trading day.

The majority of the stocks saw a price decrease, as out of the 397 issues traded, 64 closed higher, 301 ended lower, and 32 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Grameenphone Ltd. was the most-traded stock with shares worth Tk 534.06 million changing hands, followed by BRAC Bank, JMI Hospital Requisite, British American Tobacco, Orion Pharma, and Square Pharmaceuticals.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended lower with its All Share Price Index (CASPI) losing 186 points to settle at 16430 and the Selective Categories Index (CSCX) losing 113.75 points to settle at 9892.

The port city bourse traded 3.6 million shares and mutual fund units with a turnover volume of Tk 91.9 million.
