Stocks ended lower on Thursday as investors went on a selling binge to pocket short-term profit.
The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) decreased by 48.93 points to settle at 5,903.84.
The blue-chip index DS30, a group of 30 prominent companies, fell by 17.69 points to 2,179, while the DSES Index, which represents Shariah-based companies, dropped by 5.62 points to 1,264.72 till the end.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Tk 9.99 billion, down 1.58 per cent from the previous trading day.
The majority of the stocks saw a price decrease, as out of the 398 issues traded, 91 closed higher, 275 ended lower, and 32 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Grameenphone Ltd was the most-traded stock with shares worth Tk 855.27 million changing hands, followed by BRAC Bank PLC, Heidelberg Materials Bangladesh, Unilever Consumer Care Limited, and Square Pharmaceuticals PLC.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended lower with its All Share Price Index (CASPI) losing 110 points to settle at 17,032 and the Selective Categories Index (CSCX) losing 66 points to settle at 10,259.
The port city bourse traded 4.09 million shares and mutual fund units with a turnover volume of Tk 107.46 million.
