Stocks mostly lower in early trading

The prices of most of the shares on both bourses were mostly lower in early trading on Thursday as cautious investors continued on selling mood.

 

Following the previous day’s mild correction, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened marginally lower amid thin trading activities.

 

Within first 30 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell more than 9.0 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse fell 1.24 points at 10:30am.

 

After first hour of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE stands at 5,477 points, losing 12.72 points or 0.23 per cent, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse fell 1.79 points when the report was filed at 11:00am.

 

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips fell 5.68 points or 0.28 per cent to stand at 2038 points. The Shariah Index (DSES) fell 3.23 points or 0.25 per cent to reach at 1269 points at 11:00am.

 

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at Tk 1.08 billion on the DSE, when the report was filed at 11:00am.

 

Paramount Textile topped the turnover chart with shares worth Tk 90 million changing hands till then, followed by Beximco Pharma Tk 79 million, Central Pharma Tk 60 million, CMC Kamal Tk 44 million and Shahjibazar Power Tk 37 million.

 

Of the issues traded till then, 90 advanced, 115 declined and 58 issues remained unchanged till 11:00am.

 

The port city bourse, the CSE also saw positive trend till then with its Selective Category Index – CSCX – falling 1.79 points to stand at 10,300 points, also at 11:00am.

 

Of the issues traded till then, 46 gained, 53 declined and 30 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 30 million.
