Stocks witness downturn in early trading

Stocks on both bourses witnessed downturn in early hour of trading Monday as investors followed cautious stance on the day of monetary policy announcement.

Brokers said many investors followed “wait-and-see” policy amid ongoing quarterly earnings declarations and monetary policy statement.

Following the previous day’s steep fall, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed downward trend amid low trading activities.

After first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell more than 21 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CAPSI) of port city’s bourse lost 5.30 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the key index of the DSE lost more than 5.86 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CAPSI) fell 16 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 5.86 points or 0.09 per cent to reach at 6,139 points at 11:00am.

The two other indices also saw downturn. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 8.53 points or 0.37 per cent to 2,272.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also lost 1.83 points or 0.13 per cent to stand at 1,412 points.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at only Tk 665 million when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 108 nudged higher, 67 declined and 60 remained unchanged.

Paramount Textile was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 60 million changing hands, closely followed by Monno Ceramic Tkj 43 million, Alif Industries Tk 40 million, IFAD Autos Tk 18 million and Golden Harvest Agro Industries Tk 17 million.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:

The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also saw negative amid volatility till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CAPSI- losing 16 points to stand at 18,951, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Category Index – CSCX –also fell 10 points to stand at 11,446 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 27 gained, 24 declined and 17 issues remained unchanged with Tk 15 million in turnover.
