Ten cos account for 36pc transactions on DSE

Fortune Shoes tops turnover chart for second straight day

Ten most traded companies accounted for 36 per cent transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday, with the Fortune Shoes bagging the top spot on the turnover chart for the second straight session.

Market insiders said investors continued to show their appetite for the shoemaker's shares after the company reported a 35 per cent earnings growth for January-March quarter of 2019.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.54 for January-March 2019 as against Tk 0.40 for January-March 2018.

For the nine-month period from July 2018 to March 2019, the company's EPS was Tk 1.67 as against Tk 1.19 for the same period of the previous fiscal.

According to DSE data, some 9.76 million shares of Fortune Shoes were traded on Thursday, generating a turnover of more than Tk 388 million, making up 9.82 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 3.95 billion on Thursday, up from Tk 3.09 billion in the previous session.

The shoemaker's share closed at Tk 39.90 on the day, gaining 3.64 per cent over the previous day even as the market finished in the red.

The company's share was traded between Tk 27.90 and Tk 41.20 in the last one year.

The Fortune Shoes, listed on the DSE in 2016, disbursed 15 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The Beacon Pharmaceuticals came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 265 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 21.60, advancing 5.88 per cent over the previous day.

Sonar Bangla Insurance clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 139 million changing hands. The company's share price slumped 6.52 per cent to close at Tk 30.10 each.

The Sea Pearl Beach Resort emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 120 million changing hands. The newly listed company's share closed at Tk 36.20 each, advancing 4.02 per cent.

National Polymer notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 102 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 2.68 per cent to close at Tk 118.80 each. The turnover of Federal Insurance was Tk 97 million. The company's share closed at Tk 15.70 each, gaining 3.97 per cent.

United Power featured a turnover of Tk 95 million. The power generation company's share price shed 0.45 per cent to close at Tk 376.7 each.

National Life Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 91 million. The company's share closed at Tk 262.2 each, advancing 2.34 per cent.

The turnover of Runner Automobiles was Tk 68 million. The company's share price rose 2.89 per cent to close at Tk 96.10 each.

Sinobangla Industries also made its way to the day's top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 67 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 1.79 per cent to close at Tk 68.20 each.
