United Power generates highest turnover

Ten companies account for 29pc transactions of DSE

The ten most traded companies accounted for 29 per cent transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday, with the United Power bagging the top spot of the turnover list.

Market analysts said investors were active on United Power shares amid high dividend expectations, as the company's board meeting will be held on August 01 where the board is likely to declare dividend.

According to the DSE data, 645,028 shares of United Power were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 250 million, which was 5.34 per cent of the total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 4.68 billion on Thursday as against Tk 3.80 billion in the previous day.

The power generation company's share closed at Tk 395.10 each, gaining 4.14 per cent over the previous day.

The company's nine months' consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 12.88 for as against Tk 7.01 (separate) for July 2017-March 2018.

The consolidated net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) was Tk 10.52 for July 2018-March 2019 as against Tk 6.67 (separate) for July 2017-March 2018.

The consolidated net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk 66.29 as on March 31, 2019 and Tk 34 (separate) as on June 30, 2018.

The United Power, listed on the DSE in April 2015, disbursed 90 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividends for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 4.79 billion and authorised capital is Tk 8.0 billion while total number of scurrilities is 479.08 million.

The sponsor-directors own 90 per cent stake in the company, while institutions own 6.44 per cent, foreign investors 0.04 per cent and the general public 3.52 per cent as of June 30, 2019, the DSE data shows.

National Life Insurance came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 176 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 3.04 per cent to close at Tk 258.5 each.

Bangladesh Shipping Corporation clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 165 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 53.9 each, advancing 3.45 per cent.

Fortune Shoes emerged fourth, with shares worth Tk 159 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 2.89 per cent to close at Tk 40 each.

Square Pharma notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 131 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 250 each, remaining unchanged over the previous day.

The turnover of Beacon Pharma was Tk 129 million. The company's share price advanced 0.89 per cent to close at Tk 22.6 each.

Singer Bangladesh featured a turnover of Tk 110 million. The compan's share closed at Tk 203.2 each, soaring 4.53 per cent.

The turnover of VFS Thread Dyeing was Tk 78 million. The company's share price rose 3.06 per cent to close at Tk 50.50 each.

BRAC Bank featured a turnover of Tk 73 million. The bank's share closed at Tk 62.7 each, advancing 0.48 per cent.

Doreen Power also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 72 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 2.52 per cent to close at Tk 77.4 each.
