Drawing massive response and great enthusiasm from the stakeholders, the 14th Asia Pharma Expo concluded in Dhaka on Saturday.

The stakeholders expressed their interaction with each other at the expo over modern technologies, equipment, market and investment in the pharmaceuticals sector.

According to the organisers, more than 15,000 visitors thronged International Convention City Bashundhara, the venue of the three-day expo, in these three days. Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (BAPI) in association with GPE Expo Pvt Ltd organised the expo.

Both the local and foreign exhibitors expressed their satisfaction after experiencing a positive response from the stakeholders.

More than 60 companies from Bangladesh, the USA, China, England, Germany, Malaysia, India, Thailand, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Taiwan and Ireland took part in the expo, which is a platform for top drug-makers, executives, researchers, and regulatory bodies.

Paresh Jhurmarvala, founder and CEO, GPE Expo Pvt Ltd, an Indian company, said this exhibition is one of the largest presentations in the pharmaceutical industry.

Exhibitors from some 32 countries displayed lab equipments, pharma processing, and packaging materials, machinery, services, management solutions, and active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing plants, he told The Financial Express (FE).

Mentioning the massive response from the visitors, over 15,000 visitors attended the expo until 4.00 pm Saturday and they witnessed the latest technology innovations and modern machineries from the manufacturers and suppliers.

Expressing his hope, he said the next expo is likely to be larger than this year as many international companies from China and South Korea expressed their interest to take part in the exhibition.

He also hoped the organigers will be able to bring startups in the next show.

BAPI is organising the event every year as the pharmaceuticals sector in Bangladesh displayed very fast growth. The market is

showing more than 12 per cent growth per year, he added.

Aasif Ahsan Khan, founder of PodTech Lifecare & G7 Universal, a UAE-based entity, said the expo was a successful one.

His company showcased PodTech™ plug-and-play pre-engineered, pre-fabricated, pre-validated portable biopharma factory systems which help swiftly scaling up local pharmaceutical manufacturing to guarantee the affordability and availability of essential medicines, he said.

"We're making this tech affordable and accessible to anyone looking to rapidly build or scale biopharma manufacturing capability", Khan told the FE.

He suggested the organisers for attracting more investors and countries to the expo to make it internationally plausible.

He lauded BAPI's proactive role in helping the pharmaceutical industry grow faster. More trained and skilled manpower should be built up to uplift the industry, he added. Earlier on March 2, Nazmul Hassan Papon, president of BAPI and CEO of Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd, inaugurated the three-day exhibition as the chief guest.
