The government has honoured as many as 184 businesspersons with CIP (commercially important person) status for the year 2022.

They were awarded the CIP status at a ceremony jointly organised by the Commerce Ministry and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) on Thursday.

State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu handed over the CIP cards to the selected persons at the event.

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Mahbubul Alam was present at the function as special guest, with senior commerce secretary Tapan Kanthi Ghosh in the chair. EPB vice-chairman AHM Ahsan delivered the welcome speech.

Of the award winners, 140 businesspersons have received the status for their outstanding performance in the export category. And 44 individuals from different trade chambers and bodies received the cards in the ex-officio category.

Eminent business personalities are recognised every year for their extraordinary performance and contribution under export and trade categories.

The facilities a CIP cardholder enjoys include priority in seat reservations in airlines and also in rail-road-waterway transportation.

A CIP also gets a letter of introduction from the foreign ministry while travelling abroad.

They get special passes to enter the secretariat, use special stickers on their cars and get invitations to different public functions.

The CIPs and their dependents also get cabins in hospitals on a priority basis.
