Two million Bangladeshi tourists visited India in 2017, posting a record 47 per cent growth over the year 2016.
Latest statistics, released by the Indian tourism ministry today, showed that 19 per cent of foreign tourist arrival in December was from Bangladesh.
In last December, total foreign tourist arrival in India stood at 1.17 million. Thus the number of Bangladeshi tourists was estimated at 0.22 million during the same period.
In a similar vein, the number of Bangladeshi tourists for the 12 months totalled 2.009 million annually.
The Indian authority earlier expected that 1.70 million Bangladeshi would visit India last year.
Relaxation on issuing the tourist visa by the Indian government fuelled the rise in Bangladeshi visitors to travel India to a large extent.
In 2016, some 1.36 million Bangladeshi tourists visited India, recording 21 per cent growth over 2015.
