Bangladesh Railway has launched advance ticket sales for Eid-ul-Fitr travel, beginning with trains heading towards the western region of the country.
The sales began at 8:00 am on Tuesday, specifically for passengers intending to travel on March 13.
The entire quota of Eid tickets is being processed through online platforms, with the sale period scheduled to run until March 9.
Return journey tickets are set to go on sale from March 13 to March 18, bdnews24.com reports.
Tickets for inter-city trains in the western zone are now available, while those for the eastern region will go live at 2pm, according to Rezaul Karim Siddique, the public relations officer at the Ministry of Railways.
Under the schedule, passengers will be able to buy tickets on March 4 for travel on March 14; on March 5 for March 15; on March 6 for March 16; on March 7 for March 17; on March 8 for March 18; and on March 9 for March 19.
Railway officials say each passenger will be allowed to purchase tickets only once using a single national ID card. A maximum of four seats can be booked in one transaction.
Tickets bought for Eid travel will not be eligible for refund under any circumstances.
To accommodate those unable to secure seats online, 25 per cent of non-AC coach tickets will be issued as standing tickets from originating stations before departure.
