Annual transaction through cards jumps by 10pc

Financial transactions using debit and credit cards jumped by 10.15 per cent in the past calendar year, according to the Financial Stability Report 2018.

Bangladesh Bank unveiled the report last month, which showed that annual financial transaction through these cards stood at Tk 1.58 trillion in 2018, as against Tk 1.43 trillion in 2017.

Of the last year's total card transaction, Tk 1.42 trillion took place by using debit cards while the rest amount through credit cards.

Earlier in 2017, of what was transacted through cards, Tk 1.23 trillion was through debit cards while the rest (Tk 199.80 billion) through credit cards.

Currently, the country has some 39 commercial banks providing credit card service and more banks, 53 to be precise, debit card service.
