A two-day automobiles and agro-machinery exhibition will kick off on Saturday at the Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) office in Tejgaon, showcasing automobiles, agro-machinery, and light engineering to boost local manufacturing, reduce import dependence, and create jobs.

The inauguration ceremony of the fair, titled “Automobiles and Agro-machinery Fair 2025 – Road to Made in Bangladesh”, will be held on Saturday, (September 20), at 11:00 am, with Adilur Rahman Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Industries, as chief guest.

The BCI announced the event at a press conference at its Tejgaon office in the capital on Thursday.

The fair is being organised by BCI with support from the Bangladesh Automobiles Assemblers and Manufacturers Association (BAAMA)  and the Agriculture Machinery Manufacturers Association-Bangladesh.

A total of 38 stalls, including 26 from industry players and others from supporting organisations and institutions such as BITAC, BUET, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, and several SME-focused banks, will showcase products and services.

The closing ceremony will take place on September 21 at 3:00 PM, with Sheikh Bashir Uddin, Adviser to the Ministry of Commerce, as chief guest.

Speaking at the press conference, BCI President Anwar-ul Alam Parvez said Bangladesh’s light engineering sector currently consists of nearly 50,000 small and large units, employing around one million people.

“The domestic market of this sector is now valued at about US$12 billion, half of which is being met by local producers, while the global market stands at around US$8 trillion, offering immense export opportunities,” he said.

Highlighting the potential of agricultural mechanisation, he said modern technology can significantly boost productivity, generate employment, and enhance export growth.

“Similarly, the automobile sector has many sub-sectors where innovation and reduced import dependence could lead to comprehensive industrial development. If we can fully harness the potential of these industries, they can trigger an economic transformation for Bangladesh,” the BCI president added.

Two seminars will also be held during the fair—one on September 20 on strengthening backward linkages for automobiles and agro-machinery, and another on September 21 on global best practices of automobiles and agro-machinery industries and how Bangladesh could utilise its potential.

BCI leaders said the fair will serve as a platform for entrepreneurs, policymakers, and industry experts to identify challenges and opportunities, paving the way for policy reforms and greater industrial growth.

Shahidul Islam Niru, S.M., Shah Alam Mukul, Dr. Delowar Hossain Raja, Zia Hayder Mithu, Shahid Alam, Nazmul Anwar and Alimul Ahsan Chowdhury, president,  Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers' Association – Bangladesh (AMMA-B), among others, were present at the press conference.
