Bangladesh, India meeting tomorrow on courier shipments

Expanding courier shipments by the land ports between Bangladesh and India would help boost trade between two countries.

This opinion was expressed at a research conducted by the South Asian Network for Economic Modelling.

The Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD), a public-private dialogue and research body along with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will organize the Joint Taskforce meeting at Kolkata tomorrow, according to a press release issued by BUILD Monday.

The meeting will discuss the procedures for conducting the dual trial run of express courier shipments by truck between Dhaka and Kolkata.

Senior Officials from concerned ministries/departments from the governments of Bangladesh and India along with private sector organizations will attend the meeting.

The meeting will discuss terms and conditions for the conducting the dual trail run of express courier shipments by truck this year between the customs facilities at Dhaka and Kolkata airports through the Petrapole-Benapole border crossing.

The Taskforce is comprised of ministries and six private sector representatives from both countries.   

Dr.Mashiur Rahman, Economic Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister will lead Bangladeshi side while the Indian Side is expected to be led by BiswajitDutta, Special Secretary, Department of Transport, Government of West Bengal.-SAA
