The Bangladesh embassy in Thailand has for the first time showcased the country’s development successes in a two-day exhibition in Bangkok.
Bangladesh’s sustained growth and development successes over the past decade under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership including recent eligibility for graduation from the Least Developed Country category, digital Bangladesh, economic growth and tourism, agriculture, migrant workers and social development successes were on the display.
The embassy said Thailand deputy foreign minister Virasakdi Futrakul while inaugurating the ‘Bangladesh Development Fair’ extolled Bangladesh’s robust growth and secular credentials.
“Thailand commends Bangladesh for its robust growth and development success stories and looks forward to deepening economic and cultural bonds with its Bay of Bengal neighbour”, Futrakul said.
Thailand’s Vice Minister for Culture Chaweerat Kasetsoontorn, Vice Chancellor of Chulaongkorn University Prof Bundhit Euarporn, Members of Thai Parliament, Chiefs of Thai Police and eminent academicians also joined as special guests.
Senior Thai government officials, diplomats, academicians, businessmen, journalists from local and international media, students, a large number of expatriate Bangladeshis living in Thailand and its suburbs and Thai citizens joined the fair.
The Institute for Asian Studies and the Faculty of Art and Culture of Thailand’s top ranking Chulalongkorn University were partners of the fair, reports bdnews24.
‘Bangladesh-Thailand Sanskrit Maitree Art and Photo Exhibition’ was also organised at the Chulalongkorn University Art Museum to display Bangaldeshi culture. Artists from Dhaka performed at cultural show including renditions of songs by Kazi Nazrul Islam and Rabindranath Tagore.
“We have designed the Bangladesh Development Fair, the first of its kind in Thailand, so as to bring Bangladesh, its national history, our secular and inclusive culture, the extraordinary economic growth and social develop achievements of our people and the government led by our dynamic Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, closer to the common Thai people and the Thai media,” Bangladesh Ambassador Saida Muna Tasneem said.
“We hope more Thai people will get impressed by Bangladesh, take an interest and visit Bangladesh following their exposure to the Bangladesh story at the Development Fair,” she said.
