The Bangladesh Cold Storage Association (BCSA) will host the first-ever Potato Festival 2025 in Dhaka.
The event will take place at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) from December 12 to 13, the organisers said in a press release on Sunday.
To be held with the support of key ministries, industry associations, private sector partners and development workers, the festival represents a timely intervention for an agricultural sector that is full of potential but burdened by systemic challenges, the release added.
Bangladesh ranks 7th globally and 3rd in Asia in potato production, with an annual output of about 13 million tonnes. However, about 4 million tonnes are left over every year, and poor planning often leaves farmers facing losses. Last year alone, the sector lost an estimated Tk 90 billion due to low prices and limited storage capacity, it noted.
“Potato Festival 2025 is a step towards elevating Bangladesh's potato industry on the global stage,” said BCSA President Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu. “We aim to make potatoes a symbol of food security, industrial growth and international competitiveness.”
