Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur on Monday called upon bankers of state-owned Sonali Bank PLC to give more attention to loan activities to uphold the spirits commercial bank.
The central bank governor said Sonali Bank is a commercial lender, but it seems to be very cautious in approving loans, which is not a sign of commercialisation.
Speaking as a special guest at Sonali Bank's Annual Conference 2026 at the International Convention Centre, he said that the bank continues netting large volume of deposits but did not invest in accelerating socioeconomic growth.
"It is not a sustainable banking model despite making remarkable growth in operating profits," he added.
