Bangladesh Bank has introduced new series banknotes of Tk 1000, Tk 50, and Tk 20 into the market on Sunday, according to local media.
Signed by the new Governor Dr Ahsan H. Mansur, around Tk 2.0 billion in fresh notes have been distributed through 11 banks. Public access will begin from Monday, 2 June.
The bank has also unveiled designs for six more denominations under the theme “Historic and Archaeological Architecture of Bangladesh.” These include new designs for Tk 500, Tk 200, Tk 100, and Tk 10 banknotes, and Tk 5 and Tk 2 currency notes.
Each note features national symbols and landmarks, such as the Shaheed Minar, Supreme Court, University of Dhaka’s Aparajeyo Bangla, and the Sundarbans. All notes carry the watermark of the Royal Bengal Tiger and use vibrant colours and modern security features.
The new series aims to honour Bangladesh’s heritage while improving anti-counterfeit protection and overall design clarity. Bangladesh Bank will issue the rest of the notes in phases.
