The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) on Wednesday confirmed $241.30 million in financial support for Bangladesh to construct five important bridges on border roads in the country's north-eastern region, officials said.

The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) would construct the five climate-resilient bridges in the Mymensingh division, they said.

The loan deal was signed between the Bangladesh government and the IsDB on the sidelines of the lender's board meeting in Algiers, Algeria.

Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky, secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) under the Ministry of Finance, and Dr Rami Ahmed, vice president of the IsDB, signed the agreement.

During the signing ceremony, Alternate Governor of Bangladesh to IsDB Mr Mohammad Hasan Arif, Charge de Affairs of the Bangladesh Embassy in Algiers Mr Rashed Ahmed, and IsDB Chairman Dr Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser were present.

With the Jeddah-based multilateral development finance institution's financial support, the RHD will construct the five bridges on the Sunamganj-Jamalpur and Shyamganj-Durgapur border roads.

The roads are very important for the north-eastern region's connectivity with the capital.
