Benapole customs launch smart system to facilitate trade

The district's Custom House has introduced a smart system in the management to facilitate import-export and goods delivery, thus give a boost to revenue earnings.

Dubbed as 'folder system', the new process also aims to end irregularities and tax evasion by some businesspeople.

Under the new system, a revenue officer, along with an assistant/deputy commissioner will make the assessment of goods and will give the final decision.

A training workshop was also held on the same day for assistant revenue officers in the customs assessment department to give them an idea about how it works.

Benapole Customs Commissioner Belal Hossain Chowdhury was present as the chief guest at the workshop, reports UNB.

He gave detailed instructions about the methods and procedures for implementing the folder system.

With the introduction of the system, traders will be able to receive quick delivery of their goods, increasing government revenue at the same time.

It was seen over the last 40 years that the previous note sheet and file system was tiresome for taxation and delivery of goods.

Now, along with the document, the customisation process will be done by the folder in relevant and applicable areas.

This was part of several reforms that the Custom House had introduced in a month, to promote legal trade and create an investment-friendly environment.

Commissioner Belal Hossain said the previous system took up 2-3 days for a file to reach the commissioner, but under the new system, it will only take an hour or two, at best.

Benapole Port director Aminul Islam said this was a demand of port users for quite a long time now and will help quickly clear goods from the port.
