Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) will announce new power tariffs today (Thursday).
The regulator called a press conference at its office in Dhaka city at 3 in the afternoon, its Deputy Director (tariff) Md Kamruzzaman said.
BERC Chairman Monowar Islam and its members are expected to attend the press conference.
In its last revision on September 1, 2015, the government increased power tariff by 2.93 per cent per unit. That means the hike was Tk 20 up to 75 units and at least Tk 30 in case of over 600 units.
After a 50 per cent gas price hike in various sectors in March of this year, State Minister for Energy Nasrul Hamid Bipu had said it required adjusting power tariffs with new gas ones.
Then in September last, BERC organised a mass hearing after scrutinising proposals of different power distribution companies.
As per BERC rules, the regulator must announce its new tariff decision within 90 days of public hearing.
