In celebration of the 110th birth anniversary of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, the pioneer of modern art and art education in Bangladesh, the Faculty of Fine Art (FFA) at the University of Dhaka is hosting a grand three-day festival, Zainul Utshab 2024, says a press release.

Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited, the nation’s leading paint solutions brand, joined this cultural extravaganza as the paint partner.

The festival commenced with a formal inauguration ceremony in Charukala’s iconic grounds.

Distinguished guests, including Prof Dr Azharul Islam Sheikh, Dean of FFA; Prof Dr M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Treasurer of Dhaka University; Emeritus Prof Dr Md. Abul Hashem Khan; and Shamim Uz Zaman, Chief Marketing Officer of Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd, attended alongside celebrated artists and academics. The event, which ran from December 27 to December 29, remained open to visitors daily from 10 am to 7 pm, offering an immersive experience that blends heritage with artistry.

The Zainul Utshab, along with honor awards, an artist reunion, and vibrant cultural performances, forms a cornerstone of this celebration. Paying homage to the legendary artist, students of Charukala have transformed a long wall near the Bokultola into a vivid tapestry of Zainul’s iconic works and inspirational quotes, brought to life with Berger’s exquisite range of paints.

Shamim Uz Zaman, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Berger Paints Bangladesh, remarked, “The legacy of Zainul Abedin has created a profound institution that nurtures extraordinary talent. We are honoured to contribute to this celebration through our partnership with Zainul Utshab 2024.”

This year’s festival showcases a rich array of handicrafts from artisans across the nation, including sola and cane artwork, traditional mats, clay dolls, painted canvases, bioscope boxes, and other folk treasures. Adding a modern twist to the festivities, Berger Paints has introduced a unique zone named “Paint Your Imagination,” where visitors can unleash their creativity by making a monochrome cityscape artwork colorful. This platform was open for all visitors and artists so that they could express their imagination through the colors.

Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited has long been a staunch supporter of the nation’s art and culture. For over three decades, the brand has maintained an enduring partnership with the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University, a revered institution that stands as the cradle of Bangladeshi art.

With being a part of Zainul Utshab 2024, Berger Paints once again demonstrates its dedication to celebrating and preserving the rich tapestry of Bangladesh’s cultural and artistic legacy.
