BGMEA Elections: 50.16pc votes cast so far

Some 50.16 per cent or 783 votes have been cast at Dhaka, while 64.36 or 195 voters cast their votes in Chattogram until noon to elect the next board of directors for the apparel apex body -- BGMEA.

A total of 1,835 voters--- 1561 in Dhaka and 303 in Chattogram--are expected to cast their votes, and there is slow vote casting in the morning.

The biennial elections of the apparel apex body-- BGMEA-- for the term of 2025-27 begin today (Saturday) in the morning in Dhaka and Chattogram.

Vote casting has started from 8:00 am and will continue until 5:00 pm at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka and Radisson Blu Hotel in Chattogram simultaneously.

People present at the place said the presence of voters has increased and they are casting their votes.

A total of 76 candidates from three panels-- Sammilita Parishad, Forum and Oikko Parishad-- are contesting for the 35 posts of the board of directors of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

Both Sammilita Parishad and Forum panels have announced their full slates, each comprising of 35 candidates while Oikko Parishad is contesting with six candidates.

Chaity Group managing director and chief executive officer Md Abul Kalam is leading Sammilita Parishad while Rising Group managing director Mahmud Hasan Khan is the panel leader of Forum.

Romo Group chairman Mohammad Mohsin is the panel leader of Oikko Parishad.
