Md Abul Kalam, managing director and chief executive officer of Chaity Group, has formally been announced as the leader of Sammilito Parishad, a panel of the country’s garment makers.
The announcement was made on Thursday during an event at a Dhaka city hotel ahead of the upcoming elections of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
BGMEA former presidents Faruque Hassan, Redwan Ahmed, Mostofa Golam Quddus, Kazi Moniruzzaman, SM Fazlul Hoque and Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, among others, were present at the event.
Sammilito Parishad and Forum, another panel, traditionally compete the BGMEA elections.
On November 20, Forum announced Mahmud Hasan Khan, managing director of Rising Fashions, as its panel leader.
On October 20, the commerce ministry dissolved the Board of BGMEA in line with Provision 17 of the Trade Organizations Act, 2022 and appointed Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Vice Chairman Md Anwar Hossain as the administrator of BGMEA, tasking him with holding a free and fair election within 120 days and handing over the responsibilities to the newly elected body of BGMEA.
