Bangladesh-Italy investment summit will be held in April next, aiming to promote bilateral trade between the two countries.

Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Better Bangladesh Foundation (BBF) will jointly organise the investment promoting event on a virtual platform.

To this effect, the two organisations signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at a ceremony held at the BIDA headquarters in the city's Agargaon area on Wednesday.

Mosharraf Hossain, BIDA executive member, and Prof Masud A Khan, founder and chairman of the BBF Global, inked the deal on behalf of their respective sides, while the BIDA chairman Md Sirazul Islam presided over the signing ceremony.

The scheduled conference will be the first initiative under the agreement, which will organise more similar events in future in a bid to attract investment in the country.

As per the MoU, the two organisations will organise road show, seminar and conferences in different countries to promote Bangladesh's business climate.

Sirazul Islam said the country's goal to become a middle income country by 2031 and a developed one by 2041 largely depends on the higher bulk of foreign direct investment (FDI).

BIDA, the country's prime investment promotion agency, has been relentlessly putting effort in this regard, he said.

"The collaboration between the public and private organisations is required in this regard, especially at the critical juncture as we are going through the Covid-19 induced pandemic," said the BIDA chairman.

He expressed hope that the collaboration between BIDA and BBF would play an active role in promoting the investment climate in Bangladesh.

Masud A Khan said there was a need for promoting Bangladesh's brand image across the globe in a bid to attract more foreign direct investment (FDI).

BBF will highlight Bangladesh's agriculture, ICT, electronics, light engineering, energy and healthcare service sectors to draw in investors, he said.

Md Shah Alam, a BIDA director, and officials of both the organisations were present at the ceremony.

Headquartered in Dhaka, BBF is a non-profit development organisation working in the field of education, health and environment.
