Biman reschedules two flights to Kuwait, Dubai

Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Tuesday cancelled two scheduled flights to Kuwait and Dubai due to an aircraft shortage, disrupting travel plans for passengers.

The Dhaka-Kuwait flight BG-343, originally set to depart at 3:45 pm, and the Dhaka-Dubai flight via Chattogram, scheduled for 5:05 pm, were both postponed.

ABM Raoshan Kabir, general manager (Public Relations) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, told The Financial Express that both flights have been rescheduled for Wednesday.

The Dhaka-Kuwait flight will now depart from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 7:30pm, while the Dhaka-Dubai flight is set to leave at 5:05pm the same day.

Both flights were to be operated by Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, but cancellations were necessary due to a shortage of available planes.

One of Biman's Boeing 787s was grounded at Rome's Leonardo da Vinci Airport on August 10 after a wing flap malfunction was detected before take-off, forcing the cancellation of that flight and hotel accommodation for its 262 passengers.

Mr Kabir confirmed the aircraft has since been repaired and is ready to return to Dhaka.

At least nine Biman aircraft have encountered technical issues after take-off from various domestic and international airports in the last month.

These repeated problems have caused significant schedule disruptions and delays, frustrating frequent travellers who are increasingly considering alternative airlines.

Most recently, on August 11, a Biman domestic flight to Chattogram was forced to return to HSIA shortly after take-off due to a technical fault that caused excessive cabin temperature. The Dash-8 Q400 aircraft departed Dhaka around 2:30 pm and landed back safely at 2:55 pm. The fault was subsequently repaired.
