BRAC Bank Reading Café discusses Sunil Gangopadhyay's ‘Aranyer Din Ratri’

The members of BRAC Bank’s Reading Café recently gathered to explore and discuss ‘Aranyer Din Ratri’, the celebrated novel by renowned author Sunil Gangopadhyay, according to a press release.

The session turned into a lively exchange of thoughts as participants delved into the novel’s layers of fiction, character development, and the author’s deep understanding of human emotions. Members reflected on how the story, written decades ago, still resonates strongly with contemporary readers, portraying timeless themes of solitude, love, and the search for meaning in a changing world.

Participants noted that Gangopadhyay’s storytelling, while deeply rooted in its time, continues to speak to modern sensibilities - a testament to his enduring literary genius. The discussion also highlighted the author’s mastery in blending personal reflection with social commentary, making ‘Aranyer Din Ratri’both intimate and universal.

As part of its ongoing literary engagement, this month the Reading Café members are reading two works by Bangladeshi author Ekram Kabir - ‘KhudeyGolper Boi’, a collection of 47 Bangla flash fictions, and ‘Ek DushtuCadeter Golpo’, a docu-fiction based on cadet college life in Bangladesh. The group looks forward to continuing its tradition of thoughtful reading and dialogue that inspires reflection and connection among BRAC Bank colleagues.
