BRAC Bank TARA, Green Delta Insurance host breast cancer awareness event

BRAC Bank TARA, in collaboration with Green Delta Insurance, hosted a discussion session titled ‘Rise Above Fear’ to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The inspiring evening attended by 80 women customers and guests celebrated courage, compassion, and the shared commitment to advancing women’s wellness.

Green Delta Insurance was the knowledge partnerof the awareness event, while the Gates Foundation supported the initiative as the patron.

Sheikh Mohammad Ashfaque, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Branch Distribution Network at BRAC Bank, inaugurated the eventat the bank’s head office on October 24, 2025. Addressing the session he commented: “At BRAC Bank, we believe that empowerment begins with awareness and that courage often begins with a conversation. This awareness session is one such conversation, that brings together experts, survivors, advocates, and changemakers to shed light on an issue that touches so many lives - breast cancer. While cancer may bring fear, knowledge brings hope, and with dialogue and knowledge sharing, we can rise above it.”

Mehruba Reza, Head of TARA, Agami, and Premium Banking at BRAC Bank, and Sadaf Nasir, Unit Head of Brand and Communication at Green Delta Insurance, delivered welcome remarks highlighting both organizations’ shared commitment to women’s empowerment, health inclusion, and holistic well-being.

Sharmin Tarannum, Head of Medical Value Travel & Wellness, GD Assist, conducted an informative session on TARA Health Insurance Package, along with other medical value propositions offered by GDAssist, a sister concern of Green Delta Insurance. The session highlighted accessible health solutions designed to support women through every stage of life.

Renowned Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon & Breast Cancer Specialist Dr. Afrin Sultana led an insightful discussion on early detection, prevention, and debunking myths around breast cancer, reminding the audience that awareness and timely care can save lives.

In a panel discussion, distinguished panelists Prof. Dr. Md. Habibullah Talukder, Cancer Epidemiologist and Preventive Oncologist at Gonoshasthaya Community Based Cancer Hospital; Najmus Ahmed (Albab), Founder at BANCAT; and Shamarukh Fakhruddin, Director at Urmi Group; put emphasis on role of public-private collaboration in expanding access to breast cancer care across Bangladesh.

Mehtab Khanam, eminent Psychotherapist & Honorary Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Dhaka, delivered an inspiring talk on mental wellness, emphasizing empathy, emotional resilience, and psychological support for the cancer patients and caregivers.

The event also honored three remarkable cancer activists - Prof. Dr. Md. Habibullah Talukder, Cancer Epidemiologist and Preventive Oncologist at Gonoshasthaya Community Based Cancer Hospital, Mahzabin Ferdous, General Secretary at BANCAT, and Nuzhat Tarannum, Founder at TishCANhonouring their courage, contribution and advocacy in spreading hope and awareness nationwide.

Natasha Kader, Senior Manager, TARA & Agami Segments at BRAC Bank, who introduced ‘Astha’, BRAC Bank’s all-in-one digital banking platform. She emphasized how ‘Astha’ simplifies secure, convenient, and inclusive banking - enabling women to manage their finances confidently from anywhere.

The event concluded with musical performances by the BRAC Bank Music Club, celebrating hope and resilience.
