BRAC and Chartered Life Insurance Company Limited (CLICL) have joined forces in an initiative aimed at mitigating health risks for underprivileged individuals lacking access to healthcare.

The collaboration specifically targets the pressing health challenges faced by a significant number of expectant mothers in Bangladesh, according to a media release.

BRAC and CLICL officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Sunday (December 17) at BRAC Centre to promote health insurance initiatives in rural Bangladesh.

Recent statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO) highlight the alarming health risks confronted by pregnant women in the country, with childbirth complications and the threat of perinatal or postnatal mortality being prevalent issues.

The root causes identified include the negligence of the mandatory four health check-ups during pregnancy and delayed hospital visits, the release says.

During the ceremony, Arinjoy Dhar, Senior Director of BRAC Microfinance Program, and SM Ziaul Haque, Chief Executive Officer of CLICL, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

As per the terms of the agreement, all BRAC clients will now have access to continuous life, health, and maternity insurance services through Chartered Life, the release adds.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials including Belayet Hussan, Program Head, BRAC Microfinance; Mohammed Amdad Ullah, Deputy Managing Director, CLICL and Monzur Ahmed, CFO, CLICL. Senior officials from both of the organisations were also present at the event.
