Sunon International, a company based in Keraniganj BSCIC, has been fined Tk 100,000 for producing mosquito coils using harmful chemicals that pose risks to human health, without obtaining approval from the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), according to a media statement Thursday.

The fine was imposed during a BSTI mobile court operation led by Executive Magistrate Kaniz Fatima Liza on Wednesday (January 29).

The investigation revealed that the company had obtained a CM licence for its Dragon brand mosquito coils but was also manufacturing other unapproved brands such as Dragon Guilin. These products were found to contain unauthorised chemicals that are harmful to human health, in violation of BSTI regulations and excluding the approved chemicals from Khamarbari.

Upon reviewing the violations, the court fined Sunon International Tk 100,000 under the BSTI Act, 2018.

Field Officers Md Ashiquzzaman and Md Tarique Rahman acted as prosecutors during the mobile court proceedings.
