BTMA voices concern over frequent fluctuation of cotton price

Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) raised concern over inadequate supply of gas for power generation and poor port facilities.

The BTMA members also expressed concern over deteriorating investment situation in textile sector created due to frequent fluctuation of cotton price, high rate of insurance premium, onslaught of unauthorised yarn & fabrics from various sources, delay as well as non-payment of supplied yarn and fabrics by some of RMG manufacturers in connivance with some commercial banks.

The BTMA members discussed the above issues in the 35^th Annual General Meeting of the association held on Saturday at BTMA office in the city and requested the newly-elected office-bearers as well as the Board of Directors to take up the issues with the relevant authority with the importance for its solutions, said a statement.

Mr. Tapan Chowdhury, the outgoing president of BTMA presided over the meeting.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mohammad Ali Khokon, Mr. Alamgir Samsul Alamin, Mr. Abdullah Al Mamun and Mr. Abdullah Al Mahmud were elected president & vice presidents of BTMA uncontested respectively for the term 2019 & 2020.

Mr. Mohammad Ali Khokon is the Managing Director of Maksons Group. He is also the Managing Director of  Maksons Spinning Mills Ltd. and Metro Spinning Ltd.

Mr. Abdullah Al Mamun is the Director of Abed Textile Processing Mills Ltd and Mr. Abdullah Al Mahmud is the Chairman of Mahin Group.

Mr. Alamgir Shamsul Alamin is one of the directors of Shamsul Alamin Group. At present he is the Director of S.A. Spinning Mills Ltd., Fuad Spinning Mills Ltd. and Shamsul Alamin Cotton Mills Ltd. Currently he is the President of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB).

The Audited Accounts of BTMA for the period 2017 - 2018 was approved by the members in the meeting.
