The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued a special directive urging heightened vigilance in the use of radio communication devices such as walkie-talkies and repeaters under Private Mobile Radio (PMR) and Short Breaking Radio (SBR) systems.

In the directive, signed by Director of the Spectrum Division Dr. Sohel Rana, it warned of strict legal and financial actions if any such equipment is lost or damaged.

"In the future, if any PMR or SBR-related equipment is lost, not only financial penalties will be imposed, but also legal action will be taken against the organisations concerned," says the directive.

Issued with the approval of the competent authorities, the BTRC calls on all licenced users and importers of PMR and SBR equipment to exercise increased caution and strictly comply with existing guidelines to prevent such incidents.

The directive has been formally circulated among all approved users and importers to ensure accountability and reinforce compliance.

In Bangladesh, PMR systems are typically used by large public and private institutions for secure internal communication, while SBR systems are more common among smaller organisations and individuals. Both systems require prior authorisation and licencing from the BTRC.
