Cabinet approves procurement of fertiliser, oil, lentil, wheat

The cabinet committee on government purchase (CCGP) on Thursday gave the green light to procure fertiliser, edible oil, lentil, wheat and drugs, among others.

Finance minister Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali chaired the meeting in the conference room of the cabinet division at the secretariat where the approvals were given.

The committee approved two separate proposals in this regard.

Briefing the media, cabinet division additional secretary Sayeed Mahbub Khan said the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) would buy 11-million litres of soybean oil through open tender from City Edible Oil Ltd.

It will take Tk 1.746 billion for the purchase with each litre costing Tk 165.25.

The state-run TCB will also buy 10,000 tonnes of lentil at a total cost of Tk 831 million from Nabil Naba Foods Ltd with each kilo costing Tk 103.90.

The committee also approved a proposal for procurement of 50,000 tonnes of wheat from MS Agro Corp International Ltd at Tk 1.667 billion.

The food directorate will buy each tonne of wheat at $303.19.

The meeting also approved the import of 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser from MA'ADEN, Saudi Arabia, under a government-to-government arrangement.

The total cost of the import is Tk 2.534 billion where each tonne of fertiliser will cost $576.

The committee further approved import of 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea by the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) from Karnaphuli Fertiliser Company Limited at Tk 1.225 billion.

Each tonne of fertiliser will cost $371.37.

Approval was also given to the BCIC to buy 10,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid through international tender at Tk 692 million with each tonne costing $572.

The meeting also approved a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to buy LNG from Summit Oil and Shipping Company Ltd for a 15-year period starting from 2026.

The draft LNG SPA in this regard was also approved.

The committee also approved a proposal for installing a 50-megawatt solar power plant at Beel Sulongi under Netrakona Sadar upazila on a 'no electricity no payment' basis.
