Chattogram Custom House resumes operations after shutdown

Import and export activities resumed at Chattogram Custom House on Sunday evening, allowing port operations to gradually return to normal, local media report.

Customs work had been suspended since Saturday as officers and staff observed a shutdown called by the NBR Reform Unity Council.

Earlier on Sunday, the government declared all NBR jobs as essential services and urged staff to return to work. It warned of tough action if they did not comply.

Following the announcement, customs officers began reporting back to duty in the evening.

Operations at customs offices across the country had been affected, including at the NBR headquarters in Dhaka.

At Chattogram Port, over 3,500 containers reportedly remained unprocessed on Saturday.

With the programme called off, activities at the port and private container depots began to resume.

Customs officers arrived at depots around 7:30pm to restart processing, according to industry sources.
