City Bank has promoted two of its senior leaders, Md Nurul Azam Mozumder and Kamrul Mehedi, to the position of Deputy Managing Director (DMD), reaffirming the bank’s strategic focus on expanding the SME and Microfinance sectors in Bangladesh, according to a press release Wednesday.
This move reinforces the bank’s dedication to inclusive and sustainable economic growth, which is aligned with the national development agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Md Nurul Azam Mozumder, previously serving as Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Medium Business, has been instrumental in strengthening City Bank’s presence in the medium business segmen. A graduate in mathematics and business studies from the University of Dhaka, Mozumder started his career with City Bank in 1999 as a Management Trainee. Over the last 25 years, he has served in several leadership positions, including Business Development Manager, Cluster Head of Branches, and Head of Branch Banking. Since taking over as Head of Medium Business in 2018, he has played a key role in the bank’s growth in this sector.
Kamrul Mehedi, who was also serving as a Senior Executive Vice President, has led the bank’s Small & Microfinance Business since 2017. Under his leadership, City Bank introduced several innovative financial products targeting CMSME clients, and expanded its reach in agricultural, women-focused, and sustainable financing. Mehedi began his career at BRAC Bank and also served in the Bangladesh Army. He holds a graduate degree in Banking Leadership from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which has significantly influenced his approach to inclusive finance.
The elevation of Mozumder and Mehedi to DMD roles reflects City Bank’s continued commitment to nurturing leadership that drives inclusive growth and the SME sector’s development across Bangladesh.
