Chittagong Independent University (CIU) and renowned industrial conglomerate Youngone Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in order to promote collaborative research.
Through this partnership, both institutions also aim to improve industry-oriented education, develop curriculum and increase scholarships and internship opportunities for students. Additionally, the MoU will facilitate faculty and student exchanges with Seoul National University and other top universities in South Korea.
Vice-Chancellor of CIU Professor Dr MM Nurul Absar and founder and CEO of Youngone Corporation Kihak Sung signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions at the university auditorium in Jamal Khan area on Wednesday.
The signing ceremony was attended by CIU Board of Trustees Chairman Lutfey M Ayub, Trustees Syed Mahmudul Haque, Salman Ispahani, and Amir Humayun Chawdhury, as well as deans, faculty members, the registrar, and other officials from CIU.
From Youngone, key attendees included Sheikh Shahinur Rahman, managing director of Youngone Group Bangladesh, and Md Shah Jahan, managing director of KEPZ, along with senior executives from the corporation.
Speaking at the event as the chief guest, Kihak Sung said, "Chattogram is a very generous city to host Youngone Corporation. Out of 70,000 employees of Youngone, over 60,000 are from Chattogram.
"We hope this collaboration will mark a new chapter in the long-standing bond between Chattogram and Youngone, which has lasted for the past 40 years.
"Under this collaboration, we can work together to enter a new era of research and development that will take the textile and apparel sector of this country to new heights."
CIU Board of Trustees Chairman Lutfey M Ayub, in his speech, expressed optimism that this MoU would open new horizons for education and research in Bangladesh, strengthening academia-industry collaboration.
